So there are a few things that caught my eye over the past couple weeks. Thought some of you might find some of it interesting as well.

Quantum Networking

"We have realized the first prototype of a quantum network”, Stephan Ritter concludes. "We achieve reversible exchange of quantum information between the nodes. Furthermore, we can generate remote entanglement between the two nodes and keep it for about 100 microseconds, whereas the generation of the entanglement takes only about one microsecond. Entanglement of two systems separated by a large distance is a fascinating phenomenon in itself. However, it could also serve as a resource for the teleportation of quantum information. One day, this might not only make it possible to communicate quantum information over very large distances, but might enable an entire quantum internet."

Though still a long way of in the future. The end goal here is quantum communication, no more wires carrying electrons, fiber optics carrying beams of light, but photons at the atomic level using quantum entanglement to transmit data over very large distances, nearly instantly. One of the major benefit side effects of this form of communication, is that by its very nature, is next to impossible to hack, intercept, or steal without the "transmitter and receiver" to know it happened. The reason being that quantum information can not be cloned. So if you intercept it, you intercept it, it stops there, you can not clone it and send it on. So it will be known its been done. Though there is no known way to even intercept it since quantum entanglement is a state of being where two atoms react exactly the same relative to each other over vast distances with no perceivable connection between the two. So there is no "stream" of data to intercept. Fascinating as hell is you ask me.

Multi-Core CPU Communication Bottleneck

"As CPU core count goes up, communications between the cores begin to hit significant bottlenecks. This is because these cores are still using the decades old data bus model of transferring data between each other, which prevents multiple simultaneous communications and is because it only works between two cores at a time. To get over this, researcher Li-Shiuan Peh at MIT is looking to use internet-style packet-switched networks right within the CPU itself. The idea is to replace the long wires of the traditional data bus with much shorter ones connecting one core to another and using a router on each core to arbitrate the data exchange between cores. This work is still very much in the research phase however, so don't expect any products based on this technology anytime soon. This approach isn't all that surprising when one considers that the PCI Express bus uses a network-style connection model."

Something to keep an eye on, this "bottleneck" has been well known for a long time. Not just as core counts go up, since this is already a bottleneck on 8+ core processors, but as the speeds on those cores go up. If those cores had a more efficient way of communication between themselves on the die, you would be able to get more data processed faster, even at lower physical core clock speeds. Pretty cool stuff.

The True Power of CryEngine 3

People ripped on Crysis 2 because EA rushed Crytek to get the game out, and the game we got on PC was a direct console port, DX9, and lightyears behind the original Crysis on the PC. Later on, they finally got to release the the full DX11 and high resolution version for PC. Yet even then it did not truly show off the power of the engine running DX11.

This is a short video that shows what this engine can actually do, rendering in real time, as it would in a video game. Amazing if you ask me. THIS is why CryEngine 3 hold top spot next to Frostbite 2 as my favorite modern game engines.

This video really needs to be watched full screen and in HD. Amazing.

On the same topic, Crysis 3 has been announced for release early next year, and you can pre-order it already! Wow, that's fast.

Nvidia Halts GTX580 Production & Seeks Other Foundries for 28nm Manufacturing

Nvidia has officially killed the GTX 580 in favor of the next gen 600's that hit the market recently. The GTX 580 is still a beastly card, so if you are in the market for an upgrade, you might see these cards hit a price drop soon. Might be able to pick one up before they are gone.

That being said, just like AMD, Nvidia is having trouble meeting market demand for its 600 series cards due to TSMC's tight supply of 28nm chips. So they are looking into contracting other manufactures to help meet demand. Such as Samsung Electronics, Globalfoundries and United Microelectronics. Both Nvidia and AMD need to meet market demand, and this may be the only way to do so, at least until sometime around first quarter 2013 when TSMC will be increasing its 28nm production line capacity.

AMD Lowers 7000's Series Radeon Prices

As most of you know, I paid $500 for my Radeon 7950. Well, now that the GTX 680 is on the market, and was priced under the 7970, AMD has lowered its reference design prices to reflect this. Though the AMD 7900's and GTX 680's perform very similar to one and other, the AMD cards were more expensive, so this was a very welcome change.

The reference MSRP for the 7970 is now as low as $479, a drop of $70 in many cases, putting it $20 behind the GTX 680. The reference MSRP for the 7950 is now $399, a drop of about $50 on average. The 7770 was dropped by $20 to $139. AMD has also announced that the upcoming and much anticipated 7870 will sell for $330.

AMD and Google Both Competing to Buy Out MIPS

MIPS is an application ARM processor architecture designer.

AMD comes from a decades old presence in the microprocessor industry, while Google is a satrap with smartphones, tablets, and other mobile computing devices thanks to its Android operating system. With Microsoft opening up to ARM architecture with Windows 8 RT, it is in Google's interests to hedge its bets on an alternative machine architecture to both x86 and ARM. The easiest way to that is buying out MIPS and funding development of powerful processors based on it. For AMD, it's a bid to stay competitive in the low-power processor market as Intel began making inroads to smartphone processor market.

Will be interesting to see how this turns out.

Intel Ivy Bridge Not as Expected by Many Users / Worse OC Headroom Than Sandy Bridge

"Well it seems Ivy Bridge wont be the successor enthusiasts were hoping for on socket 1155. The new Ivy Bridge processors look to carry 95W TDPs instead of the originally expected 77W TDP Intel had been seeking. On top of this, the next blow to Ivy Bridge comes in the form of overclocking headroom, these CPUs tend to hit the wall at after 4.6-4.7 GHz due to temps getting so high it throttles down to protect itself from damage. The fact Sandy Bridge has an extra 200-300MHz over Ivy Bridge in terms of overclocking headroom and runs cooler at max clock has Ivy Bridge not looking so good. It seems the blame for these shortcomings is being placed on the 22nm Tri-gate transistors which have further increased transistor density in an already small die size, so much so in fact that heat can't be removed quick enough with air or water for high clock speeds. The speeds seen with liquid nitrogen have the chips looking stellar, but don't let that cloud your expectations, on air and water Ivy Bridge looks to be disappointing compared to what Sandy Bridge offered."

I know I am a realist, not an enthusiast, but I think people are being too nit-picky about processors these days. "Sandy Bridge has an extra 200-300MHz over Ivy Bridge in terms of overclocking headroom", that's not that much in my mind, and it will make little system performance difference. Sure, its fun to see what numbers you can hit, see how far you can push your system, but seriously?

Too many people think that OC and core speeds on their processors somehow relate to e-penis size. Too much misinformation out there on the benefits of core clock speeds vs architecture, hardware environments, and software designed to use them. More MHz does not always translate into noticeable system performance improvement.

Bah, guess this is just an old school tech head ranting. I apologize. haha
News Sources:

http://www.techpowerup.com/
http://www.legitreviews.com/

Discussion:

http://www.bwhgaming.com/forums/m/323223/viewthread/2840606-cool-tech-gaming-news/page/1#last

Pay to Unlock Everything in Battlefield 3?

Well that's exactly what you can do. For $40, you can unlock all the "un-lockable" items in the game that you would normally get by playing and leveling up. It's called the Ultimate Shortcut Bundle and it's being offered to everyone. With it you get all vehicle upgrades, all class weapons and gadgets, and all co-op weapons, for a total of 119 upgrades. They are also offering sub-packs for those who only want some of the items.

Kit Shortcut Bundle for all class unlocks for $25.

Vehicle Shortcut Bundle for $18.

Co-op Weapons Shortcut for $5.

Individual class unlocks sell for $7 each.

Air Vehicle and Ground Vehicle Shortcuts sell fro $10 each.

Needless to say, this has met with mixed feelings among gamers. On one side of the coin, not everyone has the time available to play the game for the hundred plus hours needed to unlock everything. On the other side, why should someone be able to pay $40 and bypass everything others had to work for?

Edit: These "shortcut bundles" are available on all three platforms. The PC versions available through Origin.

The Problem with Game Trailers

This GameSpot article brought up a good point that most of us have thought about, but have not really discussed. At what point does the gap between the game trailer and the game become too large? Too much Hollywood movie and not enough game?

Dead Island, Epic Games, and the Uncharted series are is used as examples in this video, but there are many others. You have games like Modern Warfare 3 making Hollywood style game trailers that do not represent the final product much at all. Then you have Battlefiled 3 where most all trailers are actual in-game footage, sounds, ect.

So what's your thoughts on this subject?

Personally, I would like to see less Hollywood CG or live video, and have trailers better represent what you get when you play the game.

Need for Speed Fan? Movie May be in the Works!

Warner Bros, Sony, and Paramount Studios have all expressed interest to Electronic Arts to make a movie based on the Need for Speed franchise. So far, no official word on anything else.
As long as its not just another "Fast and Furious" type film, and represents the franchise well. I am all for it.

The Evolution of Battlefield 3

Battlefiled 3 has been a huge success, there is no doubt, even though some hardcore fans of the series did not like some of the changes that departed from earlier Battlefield titles. However it has not hurt the games success, and just goes to show that it's able to change with the times, and keep up with an ever evolving gaming world. Well, now they are doing it again.

EA Games is considering offering a "subscription service" for it's hardcore Battlefiled fans, similar to that offered by Activision for Call of Duty. With CoD, you can buy "Elite", it's a yearly subscription that entitles it's holder to any DLC released during their subscription time for free, as well as other game perks that would be unique to subscribers. The service would not required in any way, and all the of DLC subscribers get for free, would still be available for purchase separately just like it is now. Though EA has not said if they plan on doing something similar, the idea is being considered, but it's not something that would be happening soon.

EA and DICE will also be setting a couple new milestones for the series this year. In June, they will be releasing a close quarters combat expansion, containing 4 new maps and 10 new weapons. These will be some of the smallest maps released in the franchise and all take place indoors. With full destruction intact, it will create an ever deteriorating and changing map as the battle progresses, and it promises to offer battles the likes of which no Call of Duty has ever even imagined.

Then, in the fall, they will be releasing the next expansion, "Armored Kill". These maps will be the complete opposite of close quarters, and be the largest maps in Battlefield!

"The goal and the theme of [Armored Kill] is to create something that is on the opposite side of the Battlefield scale from Close Quarters. Close Quarters is a very intimate, intense infantry experience. Armored Kill is
the big open, heavy metal vehicles, focusing on the big beasts of the
battle. We are introducing new vehicles into the mix. We are building
the biggest battlefields we’ve ever built before, so we’ll have the huge
battles. It is kind of the opposite…it is complementary part of the
spectrum for Battlefield 3."

So Battlefield is expanding out in both directions, and this is a good thing in my opinion. They should not limit the series to just one "type" of map or level design. The modern day battlefield is far more that just huge outdoor operations, so why limit a game based on that concept? Seeing these close quarters maps being released, followed by the largest maps in Battlefield a few months after, reaffirms my belief that Battlefiled 3 is still proving that it has far more to offer than Call of Duty can ever dream.

A few of the largest sites in the world, Google, Yahoo, Facebook and Amazon are talking about a "day of blackout" in protest to the "Stop Online Privacy Act" (SOPA). They are calling this the "Nuclear" option.

If they go through with it, it would black out these sites, as well as other supporting sites, for an entire day to bring notice to the world of true harm that SOPA and Protect IP can do to the Internet as we know it. In effect, it would bring awareness of SOPA and its threats to literally tens of millions of people, if not more, all at once.

Though there has been no public date set, it is assumed it would take place on January 23rd, the day before the Senate convenes to discuss the bill.

&amp;lt;br>

I had intended to post a little about a few different topics, then one of the many tech sites I subscribe to, motherboards.org (one of my favorites in fact), had already done a nice video that covered all three topics I was going to post about, plus one. Those topics being...

AMD's soft release of the Radeon 7970, the hardware will not be available to the general public until Jan 9th. Just to give some specs and info on the card.

SOPA, or the "Stop Online Piracy Act", that would basically allow the government to control your searches, monitor them, and even delete or deny access to sites they don't like. It's a lot more complicated than that, but that is a very generalized overview. Some say the chances of something like this passing it into law is slim, but others say its very possible, not matter the case, even the smallest percent is too much.

Funny fact about "sopa", is it means "garbage" in Swedish, and that's where it needs to stay.

If you would like to speak your mind against SOPA, you can do that here. This is a trusted site and is being linked by many sites to address SOPA.

http://americancensorship.org/

Last but not least was all the "crap" Best Buy is pulling. Not honoring Black Friday sales and or price match guarantees like they advertize on TV. So there are a lot of people who had ordered Black Friday sale items (Called Doorbuster Deals) from the Best Buy website, or in-store, that have received emails saying they will not be honoring the sale or getting their gifts. They are also turning people away who come in to take advantage of their price match guarantee, that states Best Buy will match any competitors price on the same item, even after you buy the item. So if you buy a TV from Best Buy for $600, and two days later you see it advertized at Wal-Mart for $500, you bring in that ad, Best Buy gives you that $100 difference. So needless to say, Best Buy is getting a lot of negative press right now.

This video also hits on the fact Microsoft will no longer be attending the CEA/CES, Consumer Electronic Show, since the shows organizers are charging too much for the booth and Microsoft is not seeing enough of a return from the show to justify the cost of the booth.

I do enjoy the videos from motherboards.org. Though EA/Dice are not releasing official numbers yet, some estimates are putting pre-order sales at around 3 million. Impressive to say the least.

This is the TV ad they posted on the "Thank You" page for playing in the beta. With the tag line "Above and Beyond The Call". Pretty catchy if you ask me. haha

(Warning: Explicit Lyrics - You may need to be logged into YouTube to view the video)

Battlefiled 3 Leaked as a Torrent?

It would seem that Battlefiled 3, with a supposedly fully playable single player campaign, has been "leaked" in the form of a 10GB torrent, multiplayer will of course, not work. Though many people on these news sites and forums are reporting that the campaign is not fully playable.

This in and of itself it not really all that surprising, it happens to most big mainstream title games these days, what makes this one seem odd is it looks like it might have been done by EA/Dice? At least that's according to the gaming news media sites that are reporting on it.

It's all speculation of course, but it makes many people wonder why it would be allowed to happen, unless it was the result of a disgruntled employee. Or it was on purpose, or allowed to happen, perhaps it is a marketing move?

Battlefiled 3 is without a doubt a game that will succeed and turn a large profit for EA/Dice. It's holding a "Triple A" rating and is already doing great on pre-orders alone, sales are 700% over the BF: Bad Company 2 pre-order sales. According to most sources and online retailers, BF3 is already beating MW3 in worldwide pre-order sales. Perhaps they just want to keep it that way? Give people a taste of what to expect from the final product, perhaps that's why the single player is not fully playable according to many who have obtained the torrent? There is a lot of assuming going on.

All of this makes the chance of it being allowed to happen unlikely, but still possible. Though like I said, it's all speculation. Either way, as it stands right now with BF3 beating MW3, it's pretty easy to see that BF3 is going to put hurt on MW3. No matter what torrents are out there. We all know that MW3 will also be torrented like mad, even if its not leaked prior to release.

Los Alamos National Laboratory Deploys an AMD Powered ApproXtreme-X Super Computer

Most of us tech heads know that in extreme large scale computing and networks, Intel is almost always the preferred choice, for many obvious reasons. It would seem that Los Alamos National Laboratory and ApproXtreme-X choose AMD for this $10 million project, for a few different reasons.

Socket compatibility for upgrades

Largest number of cores per socket

Four integrated memory channels per processor

The Supercomputer's name is "Mustang" and will be used for unclassified scientific computing on things such as ocean, wildfire, and plasma physics, climate and environmental projections, nuclear energy and materials. It will be one the largest machines at Los Alamos.

In a market dominated by Intel, for many good reasons, seeing an AMD based supercomputer being chosen for such tasks, by one of the most well known names in science around the world, is a pretty neat thing if you ask me.

Short Appro video presentation on the system itself (3 Min): http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=f1IMX3Q5PZk

The Destruction of Battlefiled 3

If you were in the BF3 beta, you got a small taste of the "destructive" power of the Frostbite 2.0 engine powering the game. The reason it was only a "small" taste is that the beta was a "dumbed down" version of the final game. Lower resolution textures, settings, and disabled destruction features.

EA/Dice put out a short video right after the beta ended to show off some of what we can expect from the full retail version of the game.
Battlefield 3 Multiplayer Beta (Update: Starts Sept 27/29)

According to BF3Blog.com, Dice is ready to release the Battlefield 3 Beta on all platforms, they are currently waiting on Sony and Microsoft to approve it on the PS3 and 360. They are holding back the PC version so there will be a simultaneous release. Stupid consoles, found yet another way to hold back a made for PC game! heh

From BF3Blog.com:

According to a new report emerging from French Battlefield portal planete-battlefield.fr,
Battlefield’s French community representative "Kusa” has spilled the
beans on the status of the Battlefield 3 beta: it’s ready for release,
and the only thing DICE is waiting for is a content approval from
Microsoft and Sony, in order to get the beta running on the Xbox 360 and
PlayStation 3. The PC version is ready as well, but DICE is holding
back in order to get a simultaneous beta release across all platforms.

So far this is unconfirmed by DICE, but considering that Microsoft
and Sony usually take at least a week or two in order to approve content
(whether it’s DLC, game download, etc.), it’s not entirely unrealistic
to assume that the beta is in fact ready, and that all we (and DICE) are
waiting for is a go-ahead from the console makers.

Remember, if you per-ordered Medal of Honor 2010 last year, or Battlefield 3 more recently, you will have access to the beta. At some point I think it will also be open to the public, but I am not 100% sure how this is going to be done.

For all BWH members that are looking to get into the beta, I will keep news updated as it develops.

Game on!

Update: (4:00PM CST 9-17-11)

Rumor within the past several hours has it that beta has passed certification.

http://www.enterbf3.com/viewtopic.php?t=3931

Of course, no official word as of yet, but it would make sense.
AMD Using XDR2 on Radeon HD 7900 Series

Tom's Hardware reported that, based on a leaked road-map, AMD will not only be releasing 7000 series Radeon cards in Q4 of this year, in time for the holiday season. They will also be using XDR2 on their 7900 series slated for release in early Q1 of 2012, instead of the standard GDDR5.

Here is the road-map for the first wave of Radeon 7000 cards due out for the holidays.

As you can see, the 7800's will be more comparable to today's high end 6900 series in terms of numbers. So basically, the current "high-end" GPU's will fall under the "mid-range" of the next generation 7000 series, with the 7000's offering up this level of performance for less power consumption, thanks to that 28nm process. Thats over the current 40nm process that AMD was forced to use when TSMC cancelled its 32nm process line in favor of working on 28nm development, now being used in the 7000 series GPU's.

Where it really starts to get interesting is when we look at the 7900 series, the new "high-end" options, that feature XDR2 over GDDR5. First off, look at the numbers on the current 6970 vs the upcoming 7950 and 7970, then I will try and explain what it all means.

OK, very impressive numbers, some of that is thanks to the 28nm process since you can cram a lot more under the hood and use less power to deliver more performance. However the use of XDR2 over GDDR5 is also going a very long way to really pushing the performance of the 7900 series so far ahead of the 6900's.

So what is XDR2? Its "eXtreme Data Rate" memory designed by "Rambus" for use in high-end graphics cards and networking hardware. XDR has some rather significant advantages over DDR in that it can achieve higher speeds, more efficiently, than GDDR5 can, all while using less power.

Link: http://www.rambus.com/in/technology/solutions/xdr2/index.html

XDR technology is not new, it was originally designed to compete with DDR2, it just never really gained wide acceptance until very recently. In fact, if XDR sounds familiar, that might be because it is what Sony uses in their PlayStation 3 consoles. It was just not widely used in PC hardware applications, especially on the consumer front. I mean, DDR/GDDR has been fine up to now, why fix something that is not broken?

Well, with GDDR we have hit a wall, it's becoming more and more difficult to squeeze more and more performance out of it. This is where XDR has it's chance to step in and show the world what it can do.

XDR places major focus on "per pin bandwidth", this means that fewer lanes are needed for
the same amount of bandwidth. Not only does this obviously mean you can reach higher bandwidth numbers over DDR for the same number of pins, but it's cheaper to produce than DDR of the same bandwidth.

Now with XDR2, not only can you reach much higher clock speeds, it "differential data lines" transfer data at 16x the systems clock rate. Thats 16 bits, per pin, per clock cycle. All you have to really understand about that, is it's a hell of a lot.

XDR2 also features "micro-threading". Basically, there is a limit to how often data can be accessed from currently open "rows". That current standard is 200MHz for SDRAM and 400MHz to 600MHz for the higher performance graphics memory like GDDR. When try and increase the interface speeds of the memory, you also have to increase the size of the data blocks your accessing in order to keep the interface busy and not go outside the internal DRAM frequency limit.

Here is an example I stole from Wikipedia to make better sense of it, better than I can explain it.

"At 16×800 MHz, to stay within a 400 MHz column access rate would require
a 32-bit burst transfer. Multiplied by a 32-bit wide chip, this is a
minimum fetch of 128 bytes, inconveniently large for many applications.

Typical memory chips are internally divided into 4 quadrants, with
left and right halves connected to different halves of the data bus, and
top or bottom halves being selected by bank number. (Thus, in a typical
8-bank DRAM, there would be 4 half-banks per quadrant.) XDR2 permits
independently addressing each quadrant, so the two halves of the data
bus can fetch data from different banks. Additionally, the data fetched
from each half-bank is only half of what is needed to keep the data bus
full; accesses to an upper half-bank must be alternated with access to a
lower half-bank.
This effectively doubles the number of banks and reduces the minimum data access size by a factor of 4."

OK, so all this techno mumbo-jumbo aside, what does it mean to the gamer? Look at those numbers on the chart again. Compare the current single GPU AMD flagship, the 6970, to the 7950 and 7970. You couple the 28nm process with this XDR2 memory, and you can achieve much higher numbers for less power consumption.

We are looking at over 2000! stream processors (now often being referred to as "Radeon Cores" by many tech sites), 32 clusters, 128 texture units, and 64 ROP's, all under one hood. Coupled with an effective memory frequency of 8000MHz with 256GB/s of bandwidth. These numbers are significantly higher than all current generation GPU's on both sides of the fence. All for 60+ watts less than the current 6970's.

Now I am real curious to see how Nvidia will respond considering they are falling behind in the stand-alone discrete GPU market. The last time I looked, AMD sales are beating Nvidia's far more often than not. Nvidia's next generation GPU's will be months behind AMD's it would seem. I just hope they see this and come out guns blazing. We need the competition. Not only to keep prices in check, but to spur development and advancement such as we are seeing with the 7900 series form AMD.

mso-fareast-font-family:"Times New Roman"">On September 11, 2008, a group of
friends decided that they no longer wanted to play with people who didn't know
the essence of gaming. They gathered together to create a fun place where
everyone was equal and everyone had the choice to come and go as they please.
As they talked more about what a gaming experience should be they came up with
Bob's Whore House server. As their server began to grow and more people came
around, they set down rules that not only were simple but they still stand
today that’s when Bobswhorehouse.com was created. They brought to us the
experience of a true gaming community. Where we didn't have to be picked on by
one "power hungry" leader or where we had to play because we were in
a clan. I am sure many of you have gone through all those clan times. The
founders created Bobswhorehouse.com as a new start to a non-stop growing
community that never left you with a dull moment. Three years ago, Propaganda
Panda, KaitoZaras, KayossZero, Commie Joe, Cross.t.w, SandTiger, Dracallis, Dragonin,
CrazyTits, Skyne, LordRaven, Dragon Mage, S281, Rok_it, and, last but certainly
not least, ShadowE989, came together and created what we are
now.....BWHgaming.com

AMD Radeon RAM?

Yep, that's not a typo. I looks as though AMD is stepping into the PC retail memory market, well, they already have in some places. Japan and China had them first, then being made available in Canada about a couple weeks ago.

AMD says that the Radeon Memory will come in three series. Enterprise, Ultra Pro Gaming, and Entertainment. The Enterprise Series has it's specs listed as "to be determined. Where as the Ultra Pro Gaming Series is currently DDR3 1600 and Entertainment Series is DDR3 1333.

They appear to be available in 2GB sticks at the moment, and retail for around the same as other high-quality DDR3, about $20 a stick.

AMD says their memory is "Tested to the highest quality standards in world class facilities, AMD
Radeon Memory is validated on AMD platforms in AMD’s labs." Obviously. Looks to me like you will be able to build an entierly AMD based system. Processor, motherboard chipset, GPU, and now RAM.

Sounds interesting. I actually can't wait for them to go on sale here in the United States. I would be more than happy to order some and give them a go. See how they hold up compared to other brands.

AMD with Stock Water Cooling?

The second surprise announcement to hit the net from AMD is that they are considering bundling their new Bulldozer FX Series Zambezi processors with an optional self contained water cooling solution, rather then the old run of the mill stock air cooler. Something similar to the Corsair H60, though no specific cooler has been chosen yet.

Why would they want to do this? Some people around the web are jumping to the assumption that these processors must run incredibly hot if AMD is considering bundled water cooling for them. On the other hand, what is far more likely is they are targeting what will probably be a bulk of their FX Zambezi flagship processor sales, gamers and other enthusiasts, as part of their updated "Processor In a Box" program, or "PIB".

Lets face it, how many gamers and enthusiasts buy high-end processors to run them at stock numbers? Not many. The first thing you do when you decide to get into any real level of overclocking is ditch the stock cooler and get something more suited to keeping your hardware cool while you push it as far as you want or can. Either a high-end air cooler or one of these self contained water coolers. So why not just bundle one with your flagship processor? Makes perfect sense to me.

It looks like there will be different retail versions of the processors available. Perhaps a retail PIB package that will contain a standard air cooler for users who will be running the processors at stock or who already have an adequate aftermarket cooling solution they wish to use, such as myself. Or maybe just a plain OEM CPU only package, that would be great. Then a PIB version that will come with whatever self contained water cooler they decided to do with. There is no official word as of yet, so I guess we are just going to have to wait and see.

I personally think this is a great idea.

A-Data Moving into PSU Market

In keeping the trend of change going. A-Data, a world leader in RAM and SSD hardware, is now going to be following in the footsteps of other compaines like Corsair and not only providing high quality RAM but power supplies as well.

They have chosen to work with "Channel Well Technology" as the OEM of their new line of PSU's. In case you are not aware, CWT is one of the worlds largest OEM's for many hardware compaines, including Corsair.

A-Data will have two lines of power supplies it appears, "HM" and "Hours", ranging from 550W to 1200W ,and will be a great addition to the PSU market in my opinion. I make no effort to hide the fact I love to see the extra competition in specific hardware markets. It gives us, the consumer, more choices. It ultimately drives the prices down and the quality up. Thats always a good thing from my point of view.

Looking For A New "Top of the line" Gaming Mouse?

Then it looks like you might have a few new choices if you are one of those people who want the best, want it first, and think overkill is a word that does not belong in the conversation.

SteelSeries, one of the top names in gaming peripherals, is introducing their new "Sensei" line of gaming mice. This thing contains its own 32-bit ARM processor allowing it to perform all of it's "ExactTech" calculations right in the mouse!

Not exactly sure what that is all about? No problem, neither did I until I looked it up.

http://steelseries.com/products/mice/steelseries-sensei

Pretty cool, but sadly, overkill is a word that is in my vocabulary. haha

How about the new R.A.T. 7 from Mad Cats? Yeah, they have a new one, the "Cyborg R.A.T. Albino" 6400 DPI Gaming Mouse.

This new version of the R.A.T. 7 includes an enhanced sensor and improved tracking abilities that look to be targeted at addressing issues many users of the original R.A.T. 7 had experienced. Including the longevity of the product.

Perhaps I might have to get a R.A.T. after all. With the issues that held me back from them in the first place addressed, I have to admit, that white finish would look pretty beast on my mostly all black desktop. haha

Geek On!

Believe it or not, there are actually quite a few great games still coming out over the rest of this year, and into next, besides the ones that seem to get most of our attention. Battlefield 3, Diablo 3, Duke Nukem Forever, Crysis 2, and others have pretty much taken center stage. When in reality there are many more fantastic games coming out that deserve just as much attention. So I decided to throw together a news article to showcase just some of the other games coming out that will also be getting a little bit of my hard earned money.

Metro: Last Light

The sequel to Metro 2033 set for release early 2012 is shaping up to look amazing and give credit to 2033, one of the best post-apocalyptic games out there that easily shares the spotlight with games like Fallout and S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in my opinion. If you have not yet played Metro 2033, you need to, as long as you have a system that can run it that is. The "Can it run Crysis" phrase can easily be applied to Metro 2033 as well, it's one of the most demanding DX11 games to run, just as much as Crysis was back in it's day, and Crysis 2 DX11 HR is today. Here is a look at Metro: Last Light.

Here are a few other videos on Metro: Last Light.

E3 Teaser Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkJBu42HoAQ
Gameplay Demo #1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SKsB4hECFMQ
Gameplay Demo #2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGFMJz5Moj0 (Need to be logged in to see this one)

Serious Sam 3 BFE

Yeah, now we are getting serious, Sam is back and trying to stop Mental's hordes right here on Earth, in modern times. I mean seriously, what more do you have to say, it's Serious Sam! New engine, 16-player co-op, and made for PC first! It's just bigger and badder than ever!

Here are a few other videos for Serious Sam 3 BFE.

Gameplay Interview #1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MO9btHpQZOk
Gameplay Interview #2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9xtrjDpUTw

Aliens: Colonial Marines

Being a huge fan of the Aliens franchise, I have been wanting a newer and better Aliens game that was better than what we have got over the past few years. No Predator, just my most loved and probably most feared aliens when the franchise started. Now, we got Gearbox and Sega at the helm of the franchise that was almost lost from the gaming world. You know it's going to be good. If you check out the comments on this video, you may notice a familiar name in the top voted comments. :)

Bioshock Infinite

This is a fantastic series in my opinion. Fantastic gameplay, original and fun storyline, just a blast to play. Now, from the looks of it, Bioshock Infinite is going to keep this true and deliver a great game that will be a credit to the series.

There are so many videos for this game on YouTube, your better off just searching it. heh

Closing

Yeah, there are a lot more great games coming out, far more than I can list here.
